Back on Track [Nov. 21st, 2009|02:24 am]
[music |Murder By Death - Comin' Home]

Today was a good day. Not really productive, but still awesome.

First and foremost, I got to meet Brom. An amazing artist/writer. He is totally not what I expected after his art and books. So shy! And he started off the whole thing with a quip about how awful Twilight is. A great inspiration. And I got to make a bunch of people jealous. He was talking about The Devil's Rose and wanted to show something but didn't have a copy at the podium with him so asked to borrow one. He borrowed mine. Even got in a brief conversation while he signed all TWELVE of Brett's books and cards.

Also, got to hang out with Shan. That hasn't happened in ages and come to find out she lives really close to here. Trying so hard to get her into [info]thewake_rp. Grell would fit in so well, with all his fruityness.

I've not drawn a damn thing all week. But that will change tomorrow. I'm going to finish my icons for my Bumblebee account and then get back to work on the commissions for Britt. In fact, other than hitting up the store and the like, I'm devoting tomorrow to drawing.

Downloads need to happen faster. Soon I will have more Transformers than I know what to do with! Waiting on G1 and a shit ton of comics.

Contemplation [Nov. 8th, 2009|07:46 pm]
[music |Fight Club - Opening]

I've been giving some serious thought to returning to Enter Void.

When I left, it was mostly out of too much crap going on in real life. And all of that's pretty much gone, now. I've got a few art projects to finish, including my portfolio comic. But once those are done, I'm going to look at making a short Beyond Battle for Crawford...if the urge to return remains.

The question remains: Is Void still worth it? It was a little shaky when I left. Did it go down hill, or did they manage to pull out of whatever was going on?

I miss talking to so many artists and having a real reason to push myself.

On Dreams and Stress [Oct. 29th, 2009|04:10 pm]
[music |Jonathan Coulton - Chiron Beta Prime]

My dreams as of late have been pretty intense. Not bad or anything. In fact, upon first waking up, I usually don't remember them at all. They're just too detailed for me to recall when I'm that groggy.

This is both good and bad.

Good because it means I'm resting WAY better than I have in a long time. Bad because it can leave me feeling...off in the morning. Like something's missing or something's not quite right.

But it's a sign that I've managed to get my stress level to almost nothing. And with that comes an avalanche of things. Again both good and bad. But the bad will go away, too. Skin problems clearing up, losing weight slowly, no more shoulder/back aches, fewer headaches, not nearly as tired during the day, much less frequent heart burn, almost no foot or knee pain flares. It's pretty freaking good!

The bad is mostly that as I lose weight it causes all kinds of weird hormonal things. And my pants don't fight right any more. I've made it about half a size, so far. So my pants keep falling down but the next size down will be a bit too snug (plus gotta get my glasses fixed before I can worry about clothes).

But, the dreams. Right. I really wish I could remember them in detail. I just recall weird little flashes and that's it. And they're usually more or less complete stories, too. However, an upside to not fully remembering them is that they are so detailed and vibrant I'd probably sit there with that feeling of "okay, did that really happen?"

Okay. Back to cleaning up my room. Gotta hit the store to get cake pans! Gonna make a cake for Halloween! WEeee!

Lazy Weekend [Oct. 24th, 2009|01:01 pm]
Well, now that I have all of my stuff officially unpacked, I have no more pressing matters when it comes to time off. This is...strange.

Which means time to draw! Wee!

While sitting in training last week, I had an epiphany! Well, not entirely. Just finally shaking off whatever notion I had that I had to stick to this retarded job. I vowed then and there to dedicate myself to getting a decent comic produced for my portfolio. A year and a half ago, I was so very close to getting a gig with Dark Horse. I've improved since then. A lot. I just haven't produced a comic that was portfolio worthy.

So I've been taking all of my free time at work to hash out a comic. I came up with a 12-page thing that in my head is already so much more. Enough of a story that I could make a webcomic out of. Even cooked up a site design and logo and everything.

Going out today to take reference photos for backgrounds.

And, finally, here's the character designs I'll probably use! Boyd might be familiar to some, as he's been rolling around my head for years and keeps popping up.

Crazy Concoctions [Oct. 14th, 2009|06:30 pm]
I have noodles. I have canned tomatoes. I have chicken. I have Italian seasoning.

I have no idea what I'm doing, but it sounded yummy to me!

Also, blind again. After glue had a chance to dry over night, and I was showing the repair to a friend, I discovered the glue hadn't completely held on one side. Oops.

Tuesdays Suck [Oct. 13th, 2009|07:27 pm]
So I'm sitting in my training class and my glasses needed cleaning. Common. Used the edge of my shirt and suddenly...

SPROING

My lens fell to the floor. Took 3 of us to find us since I was blind with out my glasses. Tried to put the lens back in only to find that the frame had snapped. Right next to the bridge, so I couldn't tape it. I was afraid to use super glue at work so I went through the whole day with out glasses. Gah!

Hello, eye-strain headaches.

Tried going to Binyon's to get them fixed and they said they couldn't do it. But the guy told me and Becca to go to All American something or other. Turns out they closed at 6. Bastards.

Now waiting for the glue to dry while watching the "Ghostfacers" episode of Supernatural. Watched "Mystery Spot" yesterday, funnily enough. More proof that Tuesday is the worst day of the week.

Cody was right all along.

Edit: Third time's the charm? STILL waiting. Though I may have glued the lens to the frame. Grr. I just wanna see properly. Giving it 20 more minutes and hoping I can clean/wear them again.

At the very least, I no longer have a St. Helens sized crater in my arm. It's healing quite rapidly, now.

Spooky Fun Times [Oct. 10th, 2009|12:13 am]
Becca has either the best or the absolute worst timing in the world.

Let me preface this with the fact that yes, I am freaked out by ghost stories. Everyone as something like that. I know people who are horribly freaked out by zombies. With me, it's ghosts. And I've got plenty enough reason behind it, too. Doesn't stop me from watching/reading about them in the least. I'm masochistic like that.

Okay. So I was laying on my bed, cause I felt like utter crud, watching Supernatural. Becca had come in to enjoy the last half of the episode Playthings. Credits role and I start making comments about the ghosts in it.

She turns to look at me and then looks at my window, just a little freaked out.

My window looks out onto a marshy area on the back corner of the apartment complex and I keep the blinds partially raised so the cats don't ruin them. I've had thoughts that one day I'm going to come in here and there's going to be something fucking creepy looking back at me.

Well, she just looks confused and weirded out and just tells me "look..."

Thanks, Becca.

Turns out it was just some weirdos with a flashlight wandering around in the grass between us and the marsh.

Timing is fun.

Like the time I was home alone, watching The Ring. And just as it ended, the fucking phone rang.

Bleh! BLEH! [Oct. 6th, 2009|07:37 pm]
I can't deny it any longer. I'm getting sick. All the stress over the last few weeks, the sudden chilly weather and the fact that I'm stuck in a small room, 8 hours a day, with a ton of people with bad colds.

Gonna crawl into bed early tonight. Zap it with cold meds, fluids and vitamins in the morning.

Meanwhile, I have stolen a Jasmine and Supernatural DVDs. Much warmth and happiness.

Got a 12-page comic plotted. And several more of my noir paintings. More fan art. Go figure.

Oh yeah [Sep. 28th, 2009|06:47 pm]
Forgot to mention the EPIC part of the move on Saturday.

I took out a tree with the Uhaul truck.

Well, not so much a tree, but a large limb that was about 6 inches in diameter. It was kinda special. My mom's response was "We're going to have to pay for that tree, now!"

...uh...what? we took care of the fallen limb ourselves. You can't exactly REPAIR a tree.

Feeling kinda weird today. Dragging pretty bad. Still recovering.

Plan of Attack [Sep. 20th, 2009|10:38 am]
I got a fair amount of packing done yesterday in just a few short hours, so I'm rather proud of that. But there is SO much today. Today I've got to finish the rest of the non-essential stuff. Stuff I won't be using for the next week.

- Wrangle all my stuff that's in the garage
- Get everything off the floor
- The little tidbits all over my desk
- Sift through some of the bathroom stuff

I have too much crap!

Unrelated to moving, I'm once again on a vampire kick again. Damn blood sucking bastards, invading my imagination. I need to come up with someone better than Logan, as he no longer fits with a lot of what I do--a 16 year old stuck being undead?

And just as this interest was sparked, Dal points out a movie in the works called "Suck" about vampires and rock bands. The movie starts shooting this month or next. Shortly after he tells me this, Gavin Rossdale posts on Twitter that he's being fitted for fangs. Coincidence?

AUGH! And anything vampire related that comes out gets compared to Twilight! What the fuck?! Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop will be in Suck. Not some spikey haired no-name twits staring blanklyadoringly at each other.

But that's another rant for another time. It will be titled "How Stepahnie Meyer raped the vampire genre: Anne Rice's successor?"

So...much....sewing....

Just gotta make a badge and cover my flask and I'm done. And those 2 things I can do tomorrow before heading out.

And now, as soon as laundry is done, I can go to bed and sleeeeeeep.

I DID IT! [Sep. 4th, 2009|11:12 pm]
I got everything done that needed doing! *pant pant pant*

Got registered and hug out with Sami and her friends for noodles.

All packed up for the next few days.

And I got my costume done! Well, I wanted to do a lot more pieces--like finish the gun and make a holster--but ran out of time for accessories. Got the majors done, though.

And I finished the HAT! See?

Now I have just enough time to bathe and crawl off to bed to be semi-awake and sort of ready by the time Becca gets here.

The Crazies are Out [Sep. 2nd, 2009|09:03 pm]
Ugh. I always try to avoid projects that involve spray paint cause I have to be outside.

First the guy on the other side of the duplex HAD to ask what I was doing. Try explaining cosplay to someone random. Not fun.

On my sixth round of spraying, I'm standing on the back stoop. We don't have a backyard. There's stairs from the backdoor that go down to the sidewalk. It's kinda weird. Anyway, I start shaking the spray can and I hear "GET BACK HERE YOU FUCKERS!" or something like that. It's dark out. After a few moments, I see the shape of two guys running towards me.

They heard the shaking of the spray paint can and thought it was kids come to spray graffiti. Um...I'd been out there several times already! Both before and after sunset. WTF.

I was amused that they felt the need to apologize profusely instead of slink back into the shadows. One of them was shirtless and missing teeth.

Anyway, pants are complete. Found the thing I needed for my vest. Got a gun. That's what I was spray painting. A nifty, small Nerf gun that I modded to look awesome. Basecoat of silver. Will be using acrylics on the rest of it.

Costume costume costume [Sep. 1st, 2009|10:43 pm]
Getting so anxious. Two costume-type event things in a row! Weee! So much sewing needed! But I'm making progress! Though I need to decide if I want the purple scarfy thing or one of the others that I have--one that's blue and green another that's green and black.

Left to do:
- Alter pants
- Make sock thingies
- Make jacket
- Make hat
- Embellishments

Not all of it will get done by KumoriCon. Sadly. Probably have to leave the jacket for last. *tear*

Vest is fun, though. Goes under boobage for some oomph and flares at the bottom.

Here's a photo of progress:

Dreams are distracting [Aug. 18th, 2009|08:17 pm]
Kinda pissed off at a lot of things right now. But rather than dwell on them, let's focus on the better stuff!

First, a case a guy at work had. An email case.

Subject: Cheese
Body of email: Cheese

That's it.

Then a dream I had last night.

Neil Gaiman was my landlord and lived upstairs. It was a MASSIVE house. There was this one room, a ballroom sort of place I think. There was a piano in there, I remember that much. And the whole thing was decorated like Dave McKean's art. There were these black cut-out bits hanging from the ceiling in strange shapes. I lived their with a few friends and it was awesome.

Starting work on my webcomic, again. For some reason gray/drab green/pink appealed to me for a color scheme for the pages. Doing it all in a moleskine. Calling it "What Next: The Life of the Cube Monkey."

Sad Day for Bike... [Aug. 17th, 2009|10:58 pm]
Free bike, not so good actually. But I'm getting through the issues.

What's been done:
- Fought with brakes for a few hours
- Took apart all I could
- Completely cleaned
- Tubes replaced
- Rust removed as best as I could
- Removed weird extra bits of plastic
- Greased and oiled everything
- Checked brake pads (front needs replacing)

I was just putting it back together and gave the wheels a spin. Front is straight and true. Back wheel is so crooked it drags on the frame at one spot of the rim. If it was a little bit, I'd try my hand at truing it, but no amount of spoke shifting could fix that.

There's a customer service number sticker on the frame. I found a few places online of people saying the company (Motiv) replaces parts for free. Maybe they'll give me a new rim and brake pads! I really don't want to shell out $100 for a new rim.

Maybe my mom will just let me use her bike until mine gets functional? We'll see.

Oh yeah. And iPod is gone and dead. Not my week, I guess.
